There once was king who ruled over everything; all the lands, nations, cities and kingdoms were under his rule.
This king was said to be all powerful and no one could go against him or his will and every single thing that happened in the world happened according to his will. This king had full control of everything and nobody dared to question or go against him in anyway.
The king was so great and powerful that he controlled and commanded not just the kings, rulers and peoples of the world but also the forces that governor the world itself.
Life and death bow down to him and obey his every command, he could make the sun stop shining if he felt that it was too bright, everything obeyed his commands even time itself would stand still if he commanded it to.
This king was also incredibly wise, having knowledge of the past, present and future; no action taken could surprise him and every action taken or that was about to be taken was taken according to his wish.
The king was powerful in every sense of the word and nothing could go against him or so it seemed. He was a god in every sense of the word, so powerful that even spirits and the gods of the earth bowed down before him and follow his every command.
The king had sons that rule along with him.His sons, much like him were wise and immensely powerful, not as wise or as powerful as their father though as he was the king of all things and all thing bowed down and obeyed him.
The sons were the king’s princes and even though they ruled alongside their father all their actions were still controlled by him.
For a long time, the princes lived in peace and accepted their father’s control over their lives knowing they did not have the power to go against him and make choices for themselves even if they wished to.
But as time passed one of the princes began to slowly nurture the idea of going against his father, not out of hatred or jealousy for his father and his power as he was already extremely powerful, so powerful in fact that his level of power was close to that of his father but because he was tired of being controlled by him and craved to be free and independent from his father and his control.
As the idea to go against his father grew he began to question the orders given to him by his father and as it grew further he began to be hesitant to follow his father’s orders. Some of his brothers noticed the way he was behaving and his hesitation to obey his father’s others and so they went to talk to him to find out why he had become so hesitant to obey their father.
When the other princes came to him and asked him why he was being hesitant to obey their father the prince hesitated to tell his brother the truth.
He feared that they would not understand if he told them about his idea to go against their father so instead of telling them in a straight forward manner he asked;“Tell me my dear brothers, is it possible to free from our father’s rule and control? Is it possible to live according to our wishes and not his will? These thought fill my mind and I cannot stop myself from wondering if it is possible to be free. Tell me brothers do you think it is possible”
Most of the princes laughed at him, most scolded him for having such a thought in his mind but a very small number of them began to wonder just like the prince if freedom from their father’s rule was possible.
The brothers then left the prince, saying he must have gone mad for harboring such a thought but later some of the brothers returned to the prince; they were the ones that wondered if it was truly possible to go against their father and be truly free.
The brothers then began to question the prince asking him if it was truly possible to be free from their father.
The prince could not answer there question as he didn’t have an answer to give.
The prince, from the very moment he harbored the idea of freedom in his mind he never truly knew if it was possible, to him freedom was nothing more than an idea.
The brothers stayed together, sharing their thoughts and ideas about the possibility of them being free from their father’s control.
The more they shared the more confident they began to have in themselves and their idea to of freedom.
The prince and his brothers slowly began to stop obeying their father starting out small by disobeying minor commands and then slowly starting to disobey every single one of his commands all together.
As they disobeyed him they were expecting to be struck down by their father for disobeying but yet nothing happened.
They then began to harbor the idea that their father might not be as powerful or as wise as he seemed to be for if he had been as wise as he claimed to be he would have already known about a what they were thinking and then stopped them from harboring such thoughts, and if he was powerful enough he would have struck them down the moment they disobeyed him.The brothers then began to think that maybe it was possible to live outside of their father’s rule and control.
They continued to disobey their father’s orders and commands; each time they disobeyed they felt more and more in control of themselves.
They felt like they had done something nobody not even the forces of nature themselves had dared to do; they felt like they were free from their father and his control. One day while the brothers hailed themselves for doing what nobody else could do the prince that first harbored the idea of freedom remained silent and lost deep in his thoughts.
The brothers seeing that he was thinking deeply about something asked him what is it he was thinking about was.
The prince then said;“I’m just wondering, are we truly free or is everything we do still a part of our father’s wishes. Did he want us to think about freedom and then attempt to be free by disobeying him only for us to realize in the cruel end that he was always in control even when we thought about going against him”
The brothers looked at each other, thinking deeply about what their brother said.It was possible that everything they did was indeed part of their father’s wishes and the idea of freedom was nothing more than an illusion but it was also possible that they were indeed free from their father’s control and their actions were truly now their own, existing outside their father’s control.
There was no way of knowing which conclusion was true; were they free from their father or was their father still controlling them and the idea of freedom nothing more than illusion. One of the brothers then came up with an idea to test if they were truly free.
"Brothers their might be away to test if we truly are free from father” the brother spoke gaining the attention the other brothers.
“Let’s over throw our father and seize his throne for ourselves” said the brother.
They all remained silent after hearing what the brother said.
Over throw their father, could it be done and even if it could, should it?
The brothers asked themselves.
While the brothers thought about the possibility of overthrowing their father the prince that was the first to wonder if freedom was possible had already accepted that it was the best way to know if they were truly free.
"Brothers if we don’t take father throne we may never know if we truly are free from his control. If we can go through with this plan to go against father it will proof that we are truly free but if we can’t and the idea of overthrowing father stays forever in our minds, then we will know that our father is the one in control and not us” said the prince to his brothers.
They agreed with him accepted that overthrowing their father was something they needed to do.If succeeded it would mean they were in control and their combined might was enough to take down their father but if they failed, they would be content in knowing that they went against their father’s wishes and made the choice to go against him, meaning they were capable of making a choice outside of their father’s control.
Either way, win or lose they would gladly accept any fate that came their way with content in their hearts knowing it was their choice. They all then began to come up with a plan to overthrow their father.Soon their plan was ready and the only thing that was left for them to do was to execute it.
All the brothers looked at each other knowing that once they took this step there was no going back.Although they feared that they would fail but the possibility of them being free was higher than their fear and with a deep breath they took the final step.
They didn’t really care if they won or lost all that mattered to them was their freedom, everything else other than that meant nothing to them. They invaded their father’s castle which stood high up above clouds and even the sky itself.
The few brothers attacked their father’s castle and even fought against the other brothers that rejected the idea of going against their father.
The brothers fought for their freedom but ultimately in the end they all fell but not in the hands of their father but in the hands of their own brothers.
The brothers, despite the fact that they lost were happy and content with the fact that they were able to go against their father and proved they were truly free or so they thought.
Their father seated on his throne commanded their brothers to bring them to all him.
They took them to their father and once there their father asked them why they tried to overthrow him knowing who he was, what he could do, what he knew and the power he possessed.
The prince stood before his father, speaking for all his brothers and saying;“We know what we did was extreme and uncalled for but it was the only way we could know”.
Their father then asked, “Know what?”
“Know if we truly are free and out of your control” said the prince.
“Oh, and do you know now or are you still unsure?” asked their father.
“We do” said the prince feeling confident and in complete control.
“So what is it, are you beyond my control or are you still under my control?” asked the father.
The prince then smiled happily and confidently before saying, “we are in complete and full control”.
The king just smiled upon hearing what his son said, the brothers watching their father smile and felt as though he was mocking them in some way as he smiled at them.
The king then left his throne and brought out a book a strange book.
“I wrote this book long before this world and everything in it formed, before you and your brother, before the nations and before the very existence of time. Read it and see what it says” said the king as he gave the book to the brothers.
The brothers read the book and saw that everything that was in it had happened, is happening and quite possibly was about to happen.
In the book were details about the creation of their world and how it was sculpted by their father himself; their father altered and twisted the world to serve and obey him alone, this was why everything that happened in the world happened according to his wishes and his wishes alone.
They were a few pages that spoke of the prince and his brothers and how they would plan to be free from his control and even stage a rebellion against him but ultimately fail and soon realize that their father had all the power and was in full control.
“You…you planned this from the very beginning. You knew about us and our plan yet you did nothing. You allowed us believe that we had a chance of being free even though you knew that was impossible. Why father? Why?” said the prince with rage and tears falling down from his eyes.
The prince and his brothers all shared one pain because after everything they did and planned they were still not free.
“I agree I knew everything that was going to happen and I let it happen but I am just an author watching his book, his master pieces come to life. Who am I to change the story to suit the will of a character in it? Changing the book would mean changing the story and changing the story would mean changing the vision and my vision is too great to be changed” said the king.
The princes felt a great deal of pain upon hearing what his father said and then became angry and filled with hatred for his father for being so cruel. He then brought out a sword and tried to stab his father with it only to be stopped by his father and his tremendous power.
“Leave now” commanded the king and by just uttering those very words the prince and his brothers disappeared.
The prince and his brother then reappeared on the ground far below their father’s castle.
Next to them was their father’s book with a note attached to it that said;
“If you still think you can be free read this book and try to go against a single word inside. If you can manage that you will know you are free”.
The brothers hesitated to open the book at first but the promise of freedom was too much to resist. The prince was the first to open the book, and then they all read from it.Time passed and the brothers fought hard to go against everything the book said but every single time they ended up fulfilling every word written in it.
The brothers formed a kingdom with the prince as the supreme leader and the other brothers as the second in command after him.
Their subjects were people like them who craved freedom and control but couldn’t find any.
Everyone in the kingdom all tried their best to be free but all their actions past, present and future were already in book and there was no freedom or escape from it.
Everything in the book happened and continued to happen until the very last day of their world.
At the last day, when everything was slowly fading away in complete nothingness, the prince went to see his father.
“I’m here father but you already knew I was coming didn’t you” greeted the prince as he entered the castle. The king was looking out from the window watching the world he created slowly begin to fade away into nothing.
“Believe it or not there was a time I knew nothing about this world or of even you and your brothers. That was the time before I wrote the book” said the king.
The prince then went and stood by his father’s side.
“I’ve spent all of my life trying to be free from you and your control, and each time I failed miserably” said the prince.
“I know that is how you were written to be. Your hubris is that you will never stop fighting for control even though you know you can never have it” said the king. The prince then smiled a little.
“You know me well father but that is to be expected after all, you created me” said the prince.
The king then smiled slightly upon hearing what his son said.
“Since the world is coming to an end, I have only one question alone to ask. Why did you create me and make me want freedom even though you knew I would never achieve it” asked the prince.
“I hoped that maybe you could actually break free from my story and find a way to change my book” said the king.
The prince upon hearing what his father said just sighed deeply before saying, “sorry then”.
“What exactly are you sorry for?” asked the king.
“For not being able to break free from your story and just being another basic character” said prince.
“It’s alright, for what it’s worth it was a very good story and I’m glad I could see it come to life like this” said the king.
“Yes it was, wasn’t it” said the prince with a smile on his face.
The castle and everything in it then began to slowly fade and disappear.
“It seems like the end is upon us, tell me child do you have any regret from the life you lived even though I was the one was dictated how you lived it” asked the king.
“You know I spend a great deal of it hating you and trying to free myself from your control that I actually didn’t get to truly live” said the prince.
Then the prince began to think of his life and how he spent it; he spent most of it being angry at his father and tried to freed himself from him but at that very moment as he watched the world slowly come to an end he didn’t feel any anger or hatred for his father, he had found a form of closure and contentment, accepting that his father had all the power and control.
“Father, if this truly is the end I want you to know that I no longer have any form of hatred for you, I’ve accepted that you have all the power and I will never be free from your control” said the prince.
Then the prince did something the king was not expecting he hugged him.
“You are my father and if this is the end I want to spend my last moments embracing you” said the prince.
"Hmm, you finally surprised me son” said the king as he hugged his son back with a smile on his face.
His son had finally done what he wanted, been free from his control and changed the story.
The world that was slowly disappearing began to reappear and restore itself. The prince then looked around shocked and surprised as the world restored itself.
“How is this possible” asked the prince.“Bring out the book I gave you and turn to the last page” said the king.
The prince then brought out the book and opened the last page.It said;
“As the world came to an end the prince came to his father, content and accepted the fact that he had no control over himself or his actions and all control belonged to his father. The prince then stood next to his father and they both watched as the world ended”
“There is no mention of an embrace of any kind, you did it all by yourself. You finally made a choice for yourself, escaping the story and freeing yourself from me” said the king.
The king then slowly began to disappear but before he fully disappeared he told his son, “I’m proud of you, child, you did what none of my other creations could, you broke free from the story and made a choice for yourself, congratulations child. I’m happy to see that my rebel prince has grown, you will make a great king”.
The king then disappeared.
The prince stood there smiling and crying.
He was finally free from his father and it didn’t even need to overthrow his father.
All it took was just a simple action; an embrace between father and son, that is all it took and he was free.
All his brothers both the ones that stood by him and the ones that stood against him came and kneeled before him, declaring that because he was the only one out of all of them to be free from their father’s rule he deserved to rule in the place of their father as king.
And so the rebel prince that dared to wonder if freedom from his all-powerful father was even possible became free from his rule and was now king.
But as night fell and the new king came in to his royal chambers he to rest he saw the book his father gave him on a table.
The king slowly approached the book, shocked to see it thinking that it disappeared along with his father.
The book looked different with its once title less cover now had a title;
The Rebel Prince
The king smiled at the book and before he went to bed he read it before slowly drifting away to sleep.
