Chapter5
Later that night the guard brought found Princess Tari and brought her to King Atoni, her father.
“The royal guards told me what happened, are you okay my child,” said the king worried about the wellbeing of his only child.
“I assure you you father I’m alright,” said Tari to ease her father’s worried heart. Then Delamu came in.
“My lord I need to tell you something,” said Delamu as he went down on one knee before the king.
“Go to your room Tari,” said Atoni.
“Yes father,” said Tari before she left.
Atoni then turned to Delamu and said: “Speak”.
“My lord the beast that attacked was no ordinary beast; it was a Loliya Perinama, a moonlight beast. A beast from Tonjurofori Ama, the realm of the eternal night” said Delamu.
“Then how did it get out and come to Buganbal of all places?” asked Atoni.
"I suspect that it was summoned here,” said Delamu.
The king upon hearing what Delamu said became troubled and disturbed.“By who?” asked Atoni.
“I’m not sure my lord,” said Delamu.
“Then it must be one of the mystic creatures in the forest. I knew I should have wiped them all out when I had the chance” said Atoni as his anger and hatred for the mystical beings began to slowly consume.
“My lord with all due respect I don’t think it was any creature from the forest,” said Delamu.
“Why don’t you think those mystics have anything to do with the moonlight beast attacking?” asked Atoni.
“The beast’s eyes were blood red while normal moonlight beast’s eyes are as dark as night. This shows that it was being controlled by a dark power no magical creature in the forest is capable of wielding” said Delamu.“And what kind of power might that be” asked Atoni.
“There is only one kind of power that is capable of bending the mind of a beast as wild as the Loliya Perinama and that is dark magic,” said Delamu.
The king upon hearing what Delamu said became silent as fearful and worrisome thoughts filled his mind.
The king had heard of dark magic in books and folktales told by his mother as a child and despite the fact he had never witnessed the practice of the dark arts for himself he still feared it.
“Are you sure Delamu?” asked Atoni.“Yes my lord” said Delamu.
Atoni then sighed before saying “What do you suggest we do”.
“With your permission my lord I would like to go to a nearby kingdom and ask for the assistance of two great warriors who are specialists in dealing with magic of every kind,” said Delamu.
The king briefly closed his eyes and took a deep breath before saying “Very well, I will send a small group of guards to accompany you there”.“That will not be necessary” said Delamu.“And why not?” asked Atoni.“Because the two warriors I speak of would not recognize any of our guards as their and because of that they would not be willing to help us” said Delamu.“Hmm” said Atoni thinking for a few moments, wondering who the warriors Delamu spoke of were.
“Do you remember the law I passed down all those years ago?” asked Atoni.
“Yes my lord,” said Delamu.
“Good because if the warriors you bring here are mystics I will kill both you and them, understood,” said Atoni.
“Yes my lord,” said Delamu.“Good, now go home and pack what you would need for the journey,” said Atoni.
“Yes my lord,” said Delamu before he got up and left.
The king, as Delamu left got up from his throne and went to the window, looking at his kingdom from down below not knowing that ghosts of his past were coming back to haunt him and destroy his precious kingdom in the process.
Delamu went to his home.
Once there he went to his son's room to check up on him.
He found Amasu lying on the bed covered with a blanket pretending to be asleep.
He then went to him and sat down on the side of his bed.
“Amasu, I know you are not sleeping,” said Delamu but Amasu still remained in bed.
“You may see me as the bad guy but I’m just doing what any other loving parent would do; try to prevent their child from making the same reckless mistakes they made,” said Delamu.
“You may think that the life of an adventurer is a glamorous one but it isn’t, it’s a dangerous life to live and I know you may think you are strong enough to handle it but you aren’t,” said Delamu.
“How do you know that I'm not strong enough,” asked Amasu from underneath the blanket.
“Because I’ve endured the pain, lost so much, regretted even, and seen what no man should ever see. My life as an adventurer was not a life worth living, in fact, the only time I can say I truly lived was when I met your mother and we had you” said Delamu as he got up.
“When I look at you Amasu I see the greatest and I don’t want you to waste your life being an adventurer who roams the land aimlessly with no path or direction. I want you to be better than that; I want you to be better than that. That’s why I’m so hard on you so you can grow up to be your own man and not the foolish boy I was all those years ago” said Delamu.
Delamu then walked to the door.
“Good night son,” said Delamu before he opened the door and left.
Amasu sighed deeply before removing the blanket.
His father’s words echoed in his mind before he slowly drifted and fell into a deep sleep.
Delamu went to his room and opened a trunk filled with weapons he used back when he was an adventurer.
He then began to pick up some of the weapons, choosing the ones he would need for a trip in the forest.
The next day as the sun rose and daylight filled the kingdom Delamu readied his horse to leave.
Delamu heard the house door open and turned around to see his son standing in front of the door.
“Where are you going,” asked Amasu.
“Away,” said Delamu.
“Away where?” asked Amasu.
“Away from Buganbal to a nearby village to find special warriors,” said Delamu.
“What warriors and why?” asked Amasu.
“The beast that came here last night was no ordinary creature. I came from another realm and I suspect that it was sent here by a being that possesses powerful magic, dark magic,” said Amasu.
“Dark magic?” said Amasu confused.
“It’s a twisted form of powerful magic that corrupts that wielder.
And if I am right about the beast being controlled by a wielder of dark magic it may spell doom for all of Buganbal” said Delamu as he got on his horse.“How long will you be gone for?” asked Amasu.
“Hopefully not for too long son,” said Delamu before he rode his horse awayAmasau just watch as his father rode away from the kingdom and into the forest in search of warriors that could help them fight the dark threat he sensed and feared was on its way.
Meanwhile, in Tonjurofori Ama, the realm of eternal night a sorcerer with bloody red glowing eyes, the one who sent the moonlight beast to Buganbal readies an entire army of monstrous creatures who were all under his control to attack and began to wait for the perfect time to strike.
